and tools to at least be somehwat prep'd for bad events be they
financial, military, weather or afterworld...

i reccomend #1 highly J.W.Rawles give's out advice FREE on his blog
and if he doesn't have the answer he'll send you to someone who does
if your wondering what you might have to do during a bad event.
he keeps a it simple and too the point whenever he replies to you.
if your question is interesting enough or even beginner like you
may even get your questions/comments posted on his blog.

As for training, frontsight is not going to give you the tools needed to survive, that's more straight firearms training, and not very good training at that.

Find a former soldier/marine that has combat/SERE training and get some pointers from them. There are more people out there that are like minded. The group from survival files/ falfiles does a Bug Out Bag campout every Jan, and also one in the fall at gunners pool, Arkansas, good place to learn some basic survival skills.
