Anyone know the significance of the symbol? Circle with an upside down Y?
Or a circle divided into three sections?
Canada's colors are red and white.

I think the letters are SFTZ.

The TZ can be seen as the camera zooms out before the episode closes.

Could stand for Seattle Foreign Trade Zone, but probably not Seattle Free Trade Zone.

Perhaps as amishgirl suggested, Canada (or Canadian loyalists) have taken Seattle over and is enforcing its borders.

I also agree with amishgirl that it would seem to break the genetic pattern if Russell's entire family is alive. However, I think they are alive. (Some of these theories and thoughts are discussed in the spoiler thread for Episode 123).

That speaks directly to the mythos of the Red Shirt...or Ensign (nice pull there Tim).

You could put a red shirt in the middle of twenty gold and blue shirts and BLAM...only the red shirt buys the farm [unless he is the Chief Engineer] while everyone else looks shocked and there is much gnashing and lamenting at the death.

I also think it stands for Seattle Free Trade Zone....here is a fun little analysis of the symbol itself

I'm going with my Eco terrorism freak theory for the whole meaning of the symbol and the name, and Seattle being their HQ.

Instead of a "Y" it looks like a peace symbol upside down with it's junk cut out of the middle.

Maybe something like the "A" in a Anarchy symbol the "Y" means something. Since Seattle is a closed community I doubt the SFTZ stands for "Seattle Free Trade Zone" since being a closed community I doubt they like free trade. Unless of course they also enjoy humor. Calling it Seattle Free Trade Zone then telling everyone to pound sand when they show could be their thing.

Maybe it was a free trade zone and someone or a group came in and took the whole thing over. Keeped the name.

To the truck route and attack. Seemed like a bad idea to stop in a normal Ambush site, I guess they didn't want to break the routine

It also showed something, Russ swooped from Vegas on foot, but here is a Cartel guy who has been bragging Russ was in the truck all fubared going from Vegas to Portland. So, how far has the Walker rumors spread?

I'm figuring if anyone in his family is alive they are hostages, and bait, and Russ is in for a good knock down drag out shot everyone and let whoever sort it out kind of fight.

All I could find for SFTZ was that it is an outdated model of trailers for the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company.

Don't know if this has any significance or not. I'm not even sure if it's a Seattle area rail company.

But perhaps this might, I pulled this off of wikipedia when I looked up Seattle (why hadn't I done that sooner?)

"Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels announced a desire to spark a new economic boom driven by the biotechnology industry in 2006."

I wonder if this will play into the plot line at all.

The whole free trade thing would fit nicely into the acronym, but considering the whole fortress situation...I don't want to have to wait another 9 hours to find out, Sheesh!

Ah, Cool. Some good discussions are taking place. GJ you all, and thanks for the detailed analysis RangerSergeant.

Looks like no one got my reference about "Mr. Tanaka's SideKick".

"Mr. Tanaka's SideKick" used to be an avid poster and even made it to "Cartel Agent". Then one day he suddenly stopped posting. Hence my reference linking him to a "Red Shirt".

Exclamation Sftz - 01-28-2008, 10:40 PM

Rather than wait for the next round of fan questions, I'll clear up this mini mystery right now: SFTZ = Seattle Free Trade Zone. And here's the thinking...

What would the group inside the walls call themselves? Not something bleak and oppresive. But something more idealistic. Think of it as propaganda for those stuck outside. It's not unlike Communist East Germany being called the "German Democratic Republic." Talk about your tragic irony...

Does that mean Seattle has become a fascist city? Guess you'll have to wait for 127.

Thanks for the heads up,

So the City of Seattle, full of freedom, liberal ideas, forward thinking hugs and kisses, ****py garage bands, over priced coffee and all that hookie before the fall becomes something similar to 50'-80's cold war hell?

Cooooooooool. I'm jealous, all the cool kids know the answers
